• Boomkat: Sven Weisemann’s ‘Sole Exception’ is his first and only of the year. It follows the tangent taken on the ‘Xine’ album and previous Essays 7”s to more cinematic and soothing soundtracky terrain, or perhaps even a form of modern Library music, when considered with the classically plaintive sleeve. While the majority of the five tracks are driven by fine-tuned Detroit house and electro motors, we’d never really play them in a club, they’re far more suited to reclined and immersive listening sessions at the deep end of the pool. With ‘Elysium’ Sven sets his agenda close to classic ambient, while ‘Tidal Wave’ and ‘Lateral Flection’ mesh snapping electro and opulent sound design to come across like Suburban Knight meets Deaf Center. For the House fiends, the sublime slow throbs of ‘Sole Exception’ and the symphonic structures of ‘Placid Love’ hit the mark with effortless precision. This is one of those records you should hold back for the most smudged post-rave moments, or crisp autumnal mornings, whichever way you’re coming from. Recommended.

• Boomkat: The already burgeoning catalogue of Sven Weisemann just gets better with the next addition to his Essay music 7” series. Allowing Sven to flex his more esoteric and cinematic side, these tracks follow in the same vein as the ‘Leontica EP’ with dancefloor requirements gently catered for with rolling house percussion and resonant bass but primarily giving priority to sweeping synth driven ambient sequences on ‘Winter Tale’, or lounging Afro-inflected drums and gloriously dubby atmospheres on ‘Flushed’. The attention to detail and womb like comfort of Sven’s productions set him way apart from the rest of his field and this record is another faultless reason to get familiar with this very talented producer. Fans of Moritz Von Oswald, Marko Fürstenburg or the Meanwhile imprint will love this. Limited copies - highly recommended!

• Boomkat: Sven Weisemann comes with something quite removed from his usual oeuvre for the likes of Styrax, Mojuba or Liebe*Detail etc with a luxurious 7” flexing his esoteric jazz and cinematic production skills for the newly minted Essays imprint. There’s no dancefloor ambitions here as Weisemann allows himself some time to explore opulently textured downbeats and dubby ambience on two gorgeously crafted tracks for late night/early morning play. ‘Rootless’ is a delicious 5 minutes of melancholy Detroit emotions with stunningly spacious sound design, while ‘Garden Of Fantasy’ on the flip sways with a slowhouse rhythm and brilliantly intangible synth pads that will transform the atmosphere of any space it’s played in. Completely lush and utterly seductive, plus it plays backwards! Limited copies - Hurry.
